Raunds, formerly renowned for the manufacture of Army boots and other heavy footwear; is now a new, vibrant town with an approximate population of 8,455 residents. Raunds now boasts a range of manufacturing and distribution businesses such as Phoenix Industrial Packaging and Metafix, together with a host of small industries and retailers such as Paul Alexander Carpets and Raunds Hardware and Pet Supplies. These businesses not only ensure a wide range of employment opportunities, but also providing an essential service to the local community.
Although Raunds is a historic market town, with its routes in Anglo-Saxon times, it is quickly developing into an area to suit all residents needs, providing properties to suit everyone from the 'first time buyer' to those looking for an 'executive' home. This, coupled with excellent schools in and around the local area, makes Raunds a very popular area for both local workers and those who commute to the larger cities. The Town underwent regeneration in 2007 not only to provide a wider selection of employment opportunities for the local community, but to ensure the facilities were in place to support commuters.
Raunds still boasts an excellent market, held every Friday on the Town Square. This is a vibrant event with many people travelling from surrounding areas to browse and purchase from a variety of stalls.
Due to its ancient beginnings, the town of Raunds has a significant historic background with St Peter's Church, which is mostly 14th Century. However, the building also contains a series of 15th century wall paintings which were discovered during the restoration of 1874.
Raunds is situated in the heart of East Northamptonshire with easy access to major roads such as the A45 which runs in both directions towards Northampton and the M1 or towards Peterborough and the A14, which then leads on to the M6. The A6 is just a short trip away down the A45 and will take you to either Kettering or Bedford.
