Wollaston itself has a population of around 3600 locals. It is approximately 2 miles from Wellingborough Town Centre and boasts a selection of manufacturers, retailers, schools and activities. Wollaston has a primary and a secondary school – both offering a range of activities for the local children, both inside and outside term times. These alongside two local shops, a Post Office, a Library and a small selection of Public Houses make up the heart of the village. Not forgetting the nearby attractions such as Irchester Country Park, Rushden’s Splash Leisure Pool and Wellingborough’s Swansgate Shopping Centre, home to variety of shops.
In common with the rest of Northamptonshire, Wollaston is noted for its famous shoe industry. Before production moved to China in 2003, the worldwide Dr. Martens boots were manufactured in centre of Wollaston. In 2007, manufacture of the "Vintage" line of Dr. Martens footwear was returned and resumed production to the Cobbs Lane Factory.
Wollaston is also home to the Head Office of an international chemical company. Now a common ownership factory, the Scott Bader Commonwealth Company supply jobs to the local community making advanced resins and composite materials.
There are also four Churches within the village: Anglican, Baptist, Methodist and a Salvation Army Citadel. At the north end of the High Street there is a Museum which displays and curates a timely record of Wollaston life.
